Disclaimer: The characters, the setting, etc. are NOT mine, even if I wish they were.

John lay, panting, his semen quickly cooling against the skin of his chest and abdomen. God, he never came like that from just jerking off. But something about looking up and seeing Rodney there had sent heat, white hot and inexorable, to his groin. Rodney had whispered his apology and fled as John was fighting for control. He'd given in as soon as the door had slid shut behind Rodney.

He reached the hand with which he'd been playing with his nipple to touch a blob that had landed on his throat and shuddered. God, why now?

It wasn't like he hadn't known he liked Rodney, yeah, even lusted after him once in a while, though he'd ignored it in favour of friendship when he was Rodney's team leader and the military leader of Atlantis. They were a long way from home, but he'd had no desire to ignore DADT. For all that his career had been in the toilet, he'd still hoped... It wasn't like Rodney had been his only option... or fantasy.

But now, with Rodney right there, technically his to love, and all other lovers suddenly out of reach... He wanted to do things to and with Rodney that he'd never done, never seriously wanted to do.

He'd experimented in high school a couple of times-- handjobs-- but that had been it. The Air Force had loomed large in his vision and he was going to make his father proud of him. So, he'd set that part of himself aside.

He'd never been so glad his father was dead as the day they'd busted him back to major and sent him to the ass end of the world.

He'd never hated that his father was dead more than the day they'd taken Atlantis away from him.

He'd never wanted his father alive more, yet been glad he was dead, than the day he'd married Rodney McKay. But it had been all right, because Rodney was giving him back Atlantis and it was on paper only, never anything more. Never anything more.

If Lieutenant Colonel Robert Sheppard could see his thoughts now, he'd be rolling in his grave.

He stood shakily and grabbed a couple of tissues to clean himself off, then pulled on boxers and a tee shirt.

"Rodney?" he called as he stepped out into their living room. He padded through their quarters, listening, but Rodney was gone. He stood, hugging himself. Had Rodney seen something in his eyes? Had he cried out Rodney's name as he came? He couldn't remember. Had Rodney freaked so badly?

He went back to his office and picked up his headset and debated.

***

"Hey, I have some friends in high places who got me a beta copy of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. You up for a game?" Everett asked.

Kavanagh smirked. "You know the geek'll kick your ass every time if it's a video game."

"Says who?"

"Says everyone. We have more time and money to develop our video fu."

"Put up or shut up, Liam," Everett said, motioning with his head to the transporter across the hallway.

"Okay. Hold on a sec."

Everett stepped into his apartment as Kavanagh grabbed a tee shirt and shoes. "So, Ronon?" he asked.

Kavanagh looked at him warily. "What makes you think that?"

"Well, you asked about involvement with a member of your team. Crown's female, so not your type. You know I'm not gay. So that leaves Ronon. Plus, he asked me why you'd be interested in his take on McKay and Sheppard."

Kavanagh frowned. "Okay, yeah, Ronon. But it doesn't sound like he's interested."

"What makes you say that?"

Kavanagh jerked viciously at his shoestrings, tightening them so much it had to be hurting his feet. "Because he hasn't 'done his duty to the future' or didn't he mention that part?"

"And you know this how?"

Kavanagh froze. "What?"

"How do you know Ronon doesn't have kids?"

"I... Huh. I guess I'd never thought of that."

"Not to mention that his culture's take on things doesn't necessarily indicate his opinions." Everett shook his head. "You're hopeless, you know that?"

"Yeah, and you've been so successful at getting into Simpson's pants," Kavanagh shot back. "And, no, I'm not setting you two up. I have to work with her."

"Even if I talked to Ronon for you?"

Kavanagh stilled. "You'd do that? You, military commander of Atlantis, defender of DADT, would try to set up your gay friend?"

Everett gave him a sour look. "I'm not a defender of DADT. I just follow the rules and those are the rules. And last I checked, neither one of you were members of the United States military."

"We are teammates, though."

Everett sighed. "Yes, you are. Look, just let me talk to him. It may not be an issue, anyway, if, well--"

"If he's straight, which he probably is. I just kind of hoped there'd be some Greek warrior thing on Sateda or something."

Everett chucked. "I wondered at your change in type. He's not exactly Peter."

Kavanagh shrugged. "Maybe it's too soon for me to get involved with someone like Peter again." He stood. "Okay, Dill, ready to get creamed?"

"If you call me Dill again, I'm going to start calling you Bill," Everett growled.

Kavanagh shrugged. "I'll just ignore it. That's my dad's name." He grinned. "Besides, all's fair in love and war."

***

Rodney entered the apartment practically bouncing. "John?" he called. "You're not going to believe what we just found. When they called me, I just had to see right away. John?"

Cautiously, he peeked into John's office. His husband was asleep, curled into an unhappy-looking ball on his futon, headset grasped in one hand.

Rodney considered waking him, but then thought of the incident earlier that night, his gut tightening with nerves. He withdrew, heading for his own bedroom with the huge, cold, and empty bed. Sighing, he set his alarm. There would be an early staff meeting over this one.

***

"Rodney?" John called, slipping out of bed.

The apartment felt cold and empty. He looked into the bedroom. The clothes Rodney had worn yesterday had been added to the top of the laundry pile and the covers on the bed were mussed differently than they had been the day before. The bathroom still felt faintly steamy, the shower still wet.

Rodney had gotten up, gotten ready, and left without waking him. John leaned against the bathroom door, not sure what to make of it.

***

"I still think my team should take this mission," Everett said.

Weir nodded. "I understand your position, but this is an Ancient warship and Lorne's team has an aerospace engineer with considerable knowledge of Ancient ship designs." She held up her hand. "I'm not dismissing Doctor Kavanagh's expertise, but you and I both know this isn't quite his area. Besides, this will be a good first mission for the new team make-up and to get Major Lorne back in the game after his long recovery. Please, Dillon, let Lorne take this one."

***

The other team members were already there when John arrived at the meeting. Rodney looked up as he entered and smiled, though it was a little tentative.

"Hey, you missed running with me this morning," John said, trying not to sound hurt.

"Sorry," Rodney said, looking away from him awkwardly. "I, ah, had quite a bit to do with this new information that's just come up."

Everett was giving them his usual look, so John leaned down and gave Rodney a quick peck, trying to ignore the way his stomach clenched when Rodney kissed him back. John took the seat next to his supposed husband, curling his hand into Rodney's as he smiled at Everett. "So, what's up?" he asked.

Rodney beamed at him and John tried to ignore the way his heart leapt at that. "The Aurora," Rodney said. "We've gotten a signal from an Ancient warship."

***

"So, is there anything else?" Elizabeth asked.

Everyone glanced at everyone else, but there didn't appear to be.

"All right. I'll talk to Colonel Caldwell. In the meantime, you can get ready to go."

As they stood to leave, Everett motioned them over. "Doctors, I want to make very clear to you that your working on a team together is still probationary as far as I'm concerned. If I hear even a hint of a suggestion that your relationship is causing problems, I'll be forced to change my mind."

John smirked, sliding his arm around Rodney's waist. "Don't worry about us, Colonel. We'll get the job done. Right, Rodney, dear?"

"Of course," Rodney answered. "What we do in the privacy of our own bedroom has no bearing on our work."

Everett scowled and John reacted, turning and pulling Rodney tightly to him, lips descending to cover Rodney's, daring Everett to say anything. Rodney made a quiet whimpering noise in the back of his throat, and then opened his mouth, pulling John's tongue into him. He tasted like coffee, but surprisingly sweet and warm and John lost himself for a moment, just exploring. Rodney was kissing him back, tongue sliding against his, and John felt himself growing suddenly, undeniably hard against Rodney.

Lorne cleared his throat. "Ah. Let's all meet back here in an hour."

They pulled apart. Rodney's eyes were huge as he drew in a breath. "Oh," he said.

John looked at his watch. An hour. God, what they could do in an hour... John nodded, grabbing Rodney's wrist and pulling him toward the door. "An hour. Good. Now, if you'll excuse us, I think my husband and I have something... private... to discuss..."

Hehe. Well, Rodney might have been just a little quicker if that tongue-sucking is any indication, but, yeah, pretty close.

Thanks!

You are such a tease, to leave us there!! :))

Never commented before, but am enjoying this fic quite a lot. Thanks for writing/sharing, and also for giving such regular updates. I really like the idea in itself, and love the way John rubs it in just to raise the military boys' hackles. The Everett & Kavanagh storyline is surprisingly refreshing, also. Patiently waiting for the next part!
