Summary: Part 21 of the Unified Theory series-- an AU where Everett was never drained by the Wraith and kept his position as military commander of Atlantis.
Disclaimer: The characters, the setting, etc. are NOT mine, even if I wish they were.
Author's Notes: Yes, Lorne is still named "Chris" in the fic. I like Evan, but he's just not an Evan here. Hey, it's AU, so I can do that, right?

Carson was jerked awake as a flailing arm slapped hard into his abdomen. "Teyla!" he gasped, trying to control the struggling figure in his lap.

"You will all die!" she growled. Her eyes were open, but only the whites were showing.

Frightened, he shook her hard. "Teyla, wake up!"

"Release me!" she screamed.

"Teyla, love, wake up!" He gently slapped her cheeks, trying to bring her out of her weird state.

Her hand snapped up, closing over his wrist.

He gasped as her grip tightened painfully. "Ah, God! Teyla! Ye've got to wake up, now!"

He pulled at her hand, trying to get free. Her eyes rolled and then the dark irises appeared, confused, frightened, and wary.

Her grip loosened. "Carson?"

"Are you all right?"

"What--? Where are we?"

Carson glanced around. "It would appear we're in the rec room. We must have fallen asleep."

She blinked. "Oh."

"Were you just having a dream?"

"I... I think so. I could feel him. It was... disturbing."

"And was this dream like others you've had?" he asked.

"Yes. Very similar."

He closed his eyes and shook his head. "Tomorrow, I'll arrange to get the wraith out of Atlantis."

"I will be fine," she tried to assure him.

"You won't be fine! Teyla, love, it's too dangerous for you." He brushed the hair back from her face, debating whether to tell her what she had just done. Finally, he held up his arm, showing her his reddening wrist. "He can take control of you when you sleep. At least, he can in your current condition."

Her eyes widened. "I am sorry, Carson." She looked away. "I should arrange to have myself restrained for the remainder of the night."

He stood and offered his hand. "Come down to the infirmary and I'll sedate you so you can sleep without worrying about it."

She hesitated a moment, then took his hand and rose. "Thank you."

"Oh, yeah," Rodney murmured, body sprawled out and open to John's ministrations.

One of John's hands was curled around the base of Rodney's cock as John slowly licked and sucked the rest. The other hand curled between Rodney's legs, fingers sliding in and out of him in the same rhythm as John's mouth. A part of John still marveled at finding himself here on Atlantis, in Rodney's bed, in Rodney's life. Married.

Every so often, John caught Rodney giving him an incredulous look, as if he expected John to disappear at any moment. What had happened to make him so insecure, John didn't know.

Rodney's fingers curled into John's hair. "Come here."

John slid up Rodney's body and leaned down, lips meeting lips. They kissed for a long time, slowly, languidly thrusting against one another enough to keep hard. They broke apart and Rodney pulled his legs up, hooking them over John's shoulders. John reached down and guided himself into Rodney's opening, closing his eyes as his cock was surrounded in Rodney's tight heat. "God, you feel good!"

"You, too," Rodney gasped, arching up to meet his downward stroke.

John closed his eyes and lost himself in the feel of his lover, his husband, two bodies made one.

"What are you doing up this time of night?"

Kavanagh looked up and nodded to Everett. "I could ask you the same thing."

"I like to keep Stackhouse on his toes."

Kavanagh grunted. "My cast itches, so I decided to take my mind off it. I had some ideas on my research into Birkeland currents in relation to..." He stopped when he saw Everett's expression start to glaze over. "Never mind." He went back to typing.

Everett sauntered in and perched on a chair, picking up an Ancient device sitting on a nearby table. Kavanagh didn't even look up from his typing, but still managed to smack his hand and take the device away. Everett raised his eyebrows. Kavanagh kept typing. Everett shrugged and swiped the coffee mug sitting by Kavanagh's laptop and took a swallow, grimacing. "I don't know how you can drink it this sweet. It's like drinking syrup."

Kavanagh reclaimed his mug. "I drink it that sweet because no one else in this department does."

"Explains how you're still so wide awake."

"Mmmhm." Kavanagh took a sip and reviewed his work. "So, are you going to tell me why you're here?"

"Maybe I'm just bored."

Everett sighed. "Okay. I was curious how Simpson's doing. I've noticed you've been spending quite a bit of time with her."

"She's getting better. And, no, I'm still not hooking you up with her. She has friends in the chem department with access to arsenic." He highlighted a section and deleted it, then started adding text.

"I talked to Ronon the other day."

Kavanagh's hands froze. He looked up at Everett. "And?"

"You should talk to him."

"That's all? No clue what my chances are?"

Everett grinned. "Two can play the 'I'm not fixing you up' game, Liam."

Kavanagh buried his head in his hands. "You are a cruel, cruel man, Dillon."

Everett leaned back and crossed his arms. "You know what they say-- 'All's fair in love and war.'"

"So, I was thinking," Lorne said, curled up next to Elizabeth.

"Should I be worried?"

"About me thinking?"

"About the timing," she answered, stretching against him, still smelling of sweat and sex and promise, momentarily distracting him.

He mock-glared at her. "Earlier I was thinking, and I just remembered, okay? I was thinking that if we can't negotiate with the people of M2X-456, maybe we could work a circular trade through one of our allies. Any intel we got about them would be good, too."

"Oh. I like that idea." She slid from the bed and grabbed her laptop.

Lorne raised an eyebrow. "Should I be worried?"

"Hm? About what?"

"That you'd rather work than come fall asleep with me?"

She chuckled. "Why, Chris, you're such a romantic!" She settled onto the bed with her laptop and started pulling up files on contacts and allies.

Lorne sighed and slipped an arm around her naked thigh and settled in for the night. There had been too many late nights like this for him to think she'd be falling asleep anytime soon.

Radek awoke to the sound of a shower running. The faint scents of ginger and flowers filled the air and he blinked slowly, befuddled, coming face to face with a plush Hello Kitty.

He blushed as the events of the night before came back to him-- Miko's mouth against his, the warmth of her skin, her surprising aggression. He hadn't intended to rush things with her, but apparently Miko had other plans.

He sat up, pulling the covers around himself as he heard the shower shut off. Where were his glasses? In his own quarters, he always set them in the same spot, otherwise they were too easy to lose.

"Good morning!" Miko called, stepping out of the bathroom, a blob of golden skin-tone intersected by white.

"Good morning," he answered, wishing he could see her facial expression. "Ah. Do you know where my glasses are?"

"Oh! Yes, I will get them." He watched the blob move away from him and then return. Miko curled into his lap and kissed him, tasting of mint. She leaned back enough to slip his glasses into place, then put her own on as well. She giggled as she looked at him.

He raised his eyebrows in inquiry.

"I was just thinking that your hair doesn't look much different than it does after long day at work. Should I be worried about secret lovers?"

"No, there is only you." He grinned. "But you are free to mess up my hair any time you wish."

Everett frowned. "And where is Miss Emmagan now?"

"She's still in the infirmary under sedation," Carson answered.

"Excuse me for saying so, but it seems to me it would be much less of a security risk to move Miss Emmagan to the beta site and keep the wraith here than to move the wraith."

Elizabeth shook her head. "Teyla is a valuable member of the expedition. I'm not willing to separate her from Atlantis and from contact with her people for an unknown and extended period of time."

Everett nodded. "Very well, then. Let me draw up a security detail schedule. Doctor Beckett should probably demonstrate for some of my men how to extract the enzyme so he's not required to be present every day to do so."

"I'll get my people on moving one of the, er, cages and getting power to it," Rodney said.

Elizabeth stood then. "Good. As soon as your part is done, Rodney, we'll coordinate getting our guest moved. Let's get going, people."

As people started filing out, she called for Carson to wait. She studied him as the room emptied. His eyes were still shadowed and much of the energy that she could always sense with him was gone. By the darkness of his stubble, she could guess he hadn't shaved yet today.

"How are you?" she asked when they were alone.

"I'm doing all right," he said with a weak smile.

She squeezed his arm gently, but didn't pursue the matter further. "The experiments you were doing with the retrovirus-- I've been following your reports. It sounds like you're ready for a test run."

He nodded. "I am, but that requires a test subject..." He hesitated. "... One that isn't being used for his enzyme supply."

"But if we could get an alternate source for the enzyme, you'd be ready to take this to trial?"

"I would, yes. God forgive me, Elizabeth, but it's the only solution I can see to what we're facing other than genocide."

"Hey, John, what are you up to?"

John looked up from the scattered pieces of Ancient technology. "Trying to figure out why this jumper engine isn't the same as the diagrams in the Ancient database and which pieces are equivalent."

Rodney nodded. "You'll figure it out. But right now I need your help figuring out how to disassemble and-- this is your part-- transport one of the Ancient cells to the beta site."

"Sounds interesting. What's up?"

"Carson's decided to get the wraith off of Atlantis. He had a bit of a scare last night when Teyla starting ordering him to release her."

"Shit! Is she okay?" John asked.

"She's fine. But Carson's worried that the more sleep-deprived she is, the more susceptible to control she is."

"So we're moving Mike. Let me look over the specs and see what I can do to get one in a jumper."

The wraith paced his cell, the scent of it making him agitated. He could sense the woman, the abomination, asleep, but her mind was too sluggish to control.

He turned and snarled as the door opened and several humans walked in, including the one who drew the enzyme from him every day, the one he would feed on first when he got out of here. The containment field went down and he braced himself as one of the humans fired, paralysing him.

This time was different, though. Rather than an empty syringe, the human brought out one full of some fluid and plunged it into his arm. Soon enough, he was unconscious.

"Hurry up, Doc," Lorne said, anxiously.

"Believe me, son, I'm not lingering any longer than I need to," Carson said as he finished drawing the amber liquid into a syringe. He quickly made his way out of the cage and closed the door, then headed toward Rodney.

The wraith twitched and Lorne leveled the stunner at it. "Any time now, Rodney."

"Working here. Okay. And... that should... God! Get that away from me!"

"What?" Carson asked, befuddled.

"That," Rodney said, motioning toward the syringe. "I can smell it."

"Guys," Lorne said warningly.

Carson stepped back away from Rodney. "Sorry." He pulled out the padded case he used for the enzyme and transferred it.

Rodney gave him one nervous glance and then returned to his work. "And... it's on."

Lorne relaxed as the field around the cell hummed and shimmered on. Carson, however, was studying Rodney. "Ye could really smell it?"

Rodney nodded.

"And was it a good smell or a bad smell?"

Rodney shut his eyes and shivered. "I wanted it."

Carson made a mental note to change his estimation of the enzyme's addictive properties once he got back to Atlantis. Inside the cell, the wraith stirred, glaring at them all, and he wondered if he wasn't deluding himself thinking he could turn such a monster into a human being.

Very interesting that the wraith can't control her if her mind is slow.
Good addition.

*flails and bounces*

I was just re-reading this series for like the hundreth time, and I got to the begining of this chapter and was all... I don't remember this. Then I looked at the post date and realized you had updated the series.

*squees again in fangirl joy*

And to think, I nearly went to bed without finishing the series again. I would have missed this. And let me say, I can't wait for more. No really. Can't. Please?!?!?

Hee. Currently working on the next Sympathy for Eve, then I'll get back to this.

Yay! I'm so glad your computer problems are fixed and you've got this fic up and running again. I re-read chapter 20 to remind myself what had happened before...such a hardship! ;)

I loved this chapter. Everyone had a little scene. I liked Miko and Radek finally getting together and not regretting it in the morning. I also liked the Kavanagh/Everrett teasing. I've said it before about Kavanagh, but the same could be said about Everrett: That it's good to see him being fleshed out and not just someone to dislike.

John and Rodney having sex was hot as always :). I'm glad they have so much of it- it helps make up my required daily intake *g*.

I'm glad Carson saw just what Teyla goes through, because there's no way she would have mentioned it herself, not with her determination to endure. I'm interested to see how the 'Michael' ep fits in in this AU.

Thanks! Yeah, it's been fun playing with the "What if Everett and Kavanagh were friends?" concept.
